Celebrating the Prophet’s Birth
Celebrating Milad-un-Nabi is permissible and recommended (mustahabb). It is an expression of love for the Prophet (PBUH) and gratitude for his birth.
Evidence
- Quran: Say: In the bounty of Allah and His mercy – in that let them rejoice. (10:58) – Milad is the greatest bounty
- Hadith: The Prophet (PBUH) fasted on Mondays, saying That is the day I was born. (Muslim)
- Sahaba celebrated his birth: Ibn Abbas gathered people to recite poetry on the Prophet’s birth
- Scholars consensus: Ibn Hajar, Suyuti, Ibn Kathir, Shawkani, Qastallani, and countless others permitted it
