The Year of the Elephant (Am al-Fil)
The year of the Prophet’s (PBUH) birth is known as Am al-Fil (The Year of the Elephant). Abraha, the Abyssinian governor of Yemen, marched on Makkah with an army including an elephant to destroy the Ka’bah. Allah protected His House by sending birds (Ababil) with stones of baked clay that destroyed the army.
